Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation of the joints. It can also cause inflammation of the tissue around the joints, as well as other organs in the body. The actual cause of this condition is still unknown. It usually affects the big joints of the body. Wrist, knee and hip joints are frequently affected. Rheumatoid arthritis occurs mostly in the middle age ranging between 30-60 years. Women are more susceptible to the disease than men

Symptoms:

  • Swelling, tenderness and inflammation of joints.
  • Fatigue
  • Systemic symptoms like fever, headache.
  • Pain in the affected joint.
  • Gradual loss of movement in the affected joint.
  • Joint deformity
  • Pain in the chest while drawing breath (when lungs are affected)
  • Visual disturbances, with burning, itching and watering of eyes.
  • Hard mass or nodules under the skin
  • Altered sensation on the skin.

In some patients with rheumatoid arthritis, chronic inflammation leads to the destruction of the cartilage, bone, and ligaments, causing deformity of the joints.

DIAGNOSIS
There is no test that can determine for sure whether you have RA. Most patients with RA will have some abnormal test results, although for some patients, all tests will be normal.
Two lab tests that often help in the diagnosis are:
Rheumatoid factor test
Anti-CCP antibody test
Other tests that may be done include:
Complete blood count
C-reactive protein
Erythrocyte sedimentation rate
Joint ultrasound or MRI
Joint x-rays
Synovial fluid analysis

Rheumatoid arthritis is described as “Amavatha” in Ayurveda.  This is one of the diseases where Ayurveda can give wonderful results unlike modern medicine. In Ayurveda following are the lines of treatment:
Langhanam (Fasting) Sodhana chikitsa (Purification of the body)Shamana chikitsa (Treatment for subsiding the symptoms) Ayurvedic massage with medicated oils is also recommended for relieving pain and improving the movement and function of the affected joints and tissues and also for stimulating blood circulation. They not only provide relief from the pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis, but also strengthen the body tissues and the neuromuscular systems. Here Kayalvarath Ayurveda hospital is providing a very effective treatment methodology for treating Rheumatoid Arthritis (Ama vata), based on the Ayurveda lines of management coupled with years of experience and dedication. If patient can come for the treatment in early stages of the disease, even complete cure is also possible.
